Apply

We strive to create a diverse body of students from a variety of academic backgrounds, including archaeology, history, ancient linguistics, biblical studies and theology. However, archaeology is rapidly evolving into an interdisciplinary field and students with degrees outside of the humanities and social sciences are encouraged to apply as well.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must have a GPA above 3 or 80%.
  • Students who are not native English speakers and who have not completed their undergraduate studies in English at an English speaking country will be required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores. Minimal IELTS requirements: Overall band score of 7.0. Minimal TOEFL requirements: Paper based test – 573, computer based test – 230, internet based test – 89.

TUITION

A Master of Arts Degree in Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures from Tel Aviv University – without thesis

The 18,000 USD fees are comprised of:

1. A 15,500 USD fee, payable to the OSP, which includes two tutorial semesters, 8-10 field trips to archaeological sites such as Megiddo, and Ramat Rachel, medical insurance, student union membership, library access and student fees to the university.

2. A 2,500 USD fee, payable to the excavation site, which includes 4 weeks of field excavation, field classes, boarding and travel at either Tel Azekah or Tel Megiddo.

The fees for the first year, as mentioned above, are 18,000 USD.

The fees for the second year thesis extension are 8,500 USD.

The first year tuition includes two tutorial semesters, 8-10 field trips to archaeological sites such as Megiddo, Ramat Rachel etc., 4 weeks of field excavation at Tel Azekah or Tel Socho, Medical insurance, student union membership, library access and student fees to the university.

The second year tuition includes two seminar courses, two linguistic courses (one modern and one ancient), prerequisite courses (if required), personal thesis guidance from members of the archaeology department, medical insurance, student union membership, library access and student fees to the university.

APPLYING TO THE PROGRAM

Application deadline is August 15th.

In exceptional cases students may be accepted after the deadline, and before September 1st.

Students can apply online via the TAU International website. 

Once the online application is completed, prospective students will submit:

  • Previous academic records (original BA transcript is mandatory + original transcripts for transferred credits (if relevant), additional diplomas and transcripts are optional)
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Health Declaration form (after acceptance, students are required to fill out a medical form by their physician) 
  • TOEFL or IELTS scores (for whom it is applicable)
  • A personal statement which includes the reasons you have applied to the program, your archaeological background (if applicable), main archaeological topics of interest, etc.

 Dorm rooms’ availability is limited.

Students who confirm their participation in the program AFTER April 30th might not be allocated a room.

Students MUST state their dorm room request in the confirmation form as well as inform the program manager, Ms. Nadin Reshef, of their dorm room request.
